Meet DR UK's First 2026 London Marathon Star, Sebastian!

Blog UK Participation

We spoke to Sebastian, the first of our London Marathon 2026 cohort of fundraisers, about his marathon training, why he chose to run for Disability Rights UK and how a marathon can equip you for so many other challenges in life!

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I’m a composer for film and television based in London. Music has always been my passion, and I feel very lucky to be pursuing it as a career. Early career highlights include the release of my first album, Picture This, as well as scores for short films from the US, UK, and Germany.

What made you choose the London Marathon 2026 specifically?

It’s a really awesome opportunity to run a historic and scenic race. The timing is a result of my moving to London — I’ve lived in the United States for the last couple years.

What kind of preparation have you been doing/will you have to do in anticipation of the run?

Well it’s a good thing time is on my side, since I’ve never run a marathon before. So I’ll have to start training almost immediately. Fortunately I ran with my mom a lot as a kid, and have built up to running half marathon distance. So the plan is to build on that over the next 8 months to run a good time.

Why did you decide to support Disability Rights UK?

My girlfriend Polly Maton recently started working for Disability Rights UK. I’ve learned a lot from her about the importance of activism, and the great work DR UK does to champion Disabled people throughout the UK. It’s really urgent to support Disabled causes to weather the impact of the cost-of-living crisis and Covid, both of which were especially hard on Disabled folks. DR UK have also been doing vital work fighting the government’s attack on PIP and Universal Credit.

How do you think this experience might change you, or what you might learn from it?

Beyond seriously challenging my dysfunctional knees, I hope it’ll give me confidence to tackle new skills and challenges. And depending on how the training goes, it could give me a much-needed sense of routine and discipline.
